This was Calli's first year to really participate in Homecoming. The cheerleaders put on the homecoming dance so we were heavily involved in decorating and planning the weeks prior. She didn't have a date but instead went with some friends. She looked beautiful!
As you can see, homecoming is a big deal and warrants a fancy new dress, pretty hair, spray tan and the whole 9 yards.
On a funnier note, this year Colson had an (alleged) girlfriend this year at homecoming time. I'm not a believer in girlfriends at this age and wasn't really into getting anyone a mum or doing any kind of homecoming festivities for 5th graders. I asked Colson about his girlfriend (Taylor Thomas) and he never admitted to it and didn't want to talk about it AT ALL! So I just told him "IF have a girlfriend (not saying you do) but IF you did, she's going to expect to get a mum. and you need to tell her that you aren't going to get her a mum. This way she won't get you anything and you won't feel silly". About 4 days before the homecoming game, I found one of Calli's old mums under his sink and realized his plan was to just bring that and give it to Taylor. So I texted Taylor's mom and let her know that we wouldn't be getting Taylor anything. She was very understanding and assured me that it was ok. So on game night, I took Colson and his friend to the game. Calli was already there cheering. When he got out of the car, I could tell he was hiding something and trying to get out of the car quickly. I casually asked him what he had in his hand and he held it up like everyone knew what he was doing and said "for Taylor". He really was going to give Taylor Calli's little mum from 6th grade (3 years old). He had cut Calli's name off of it (smart kid). I told him that he couldn't do that and that Taylor knew he wasn't getting her anything. So he threw it in the back seat and said "Man…I had to give Calli a long back rub to get that thing". Oh how cute!!
