COLSON CATCH UP

Colson is much less involved in extra curricular activities at the ripe old age of 5 than Calli is at the present time and rightly so. We just do a lot of playing. We head down to the pond some, ride his 4 wheeler some, harrass the dogs, catch bugs and then of course he does have to drive Calli around the world most days but he's a really good sport.

As I've posted before, he did start baseball this year and was improving as the games went on. By the end of the series, he was making contact with the ball in coach pitch. He's still not great at catching or knowing what to do with the ball when he gets it depending on where he's standing in the field but I'm sure we'll get there.

This picture was the game where he had won the game ball. Of course it was one of the games where Wes was out of town. After every game the kids all huddle around in the dugout and the coach would tell them how well they did and praise them for different plays in the game but the kids really weren't listening. They would talk over him and ask over and over "Who gets the game ball?" At this game when Colson's name was called, his eyes lit up and the biggest smile came across his face as he DARTED towards the coach to get the ball. He then turned and made eye contact with me and you could see the pride in his eyes.

At our last game last week, they gave out trophies for the season. Whatever sport we play for the season, Colson is so concerned about the trophy and will he get one, what will it look like, when will they get them, will he still get one if he misses a game...and on and on and on. So needless to say, the little man was excited to receive this trophy! Within 5 minutes, I take it to the car with me as I'm going to get something else and drop it. Of course it breaks because it's cheap, cheap, cheap! Colson wasn't with me so I hid it. Colson kept telling everyone he was going to show them his trophy but luckily he forgot by the time we got to the car. I just took it in yesterday and got the trophy people to fix it and represented it to him. He was thrilled!

A couple of weeks ago, Colson and I were at the mall in Dillards and I was looking at some shirts when Colson would come by and slap my bottom. I've kind of developed some bad habits with him because I play rough with him and allow him to play rough with me. So, after 2 times I ask him to stop and tell him that this really isn't a good time to be playing that kind of game. He pauses and says "Mom, remember that Bible verse that says when someone hits you, you should hit them back?" What?!?!?! Of course I kind of chuckle and said "No, Colson that is not what the Bible verse says". You see a few days earlier we were reading the golden rule verse from the Bible that says Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In this Bible reading, I specifically used the example of hitting others so I knew exactly where these thoughts were coming from. I think he knew exactly what the Bible verse said, he was just trying to be funny and get me going. So he proceeds to plead his case that the Bible really did say that if someone hits you, you should hit them back. As this is going on I hear some chuckling in the background but I'm really more focused on Colson and our conversation than the people behind me. I then tell him that maybe that is what his Daddy says but I'm certain that the Bible does not say that. With that, the man behind me and the lady checking bust out in a full laugh. The man said, "young man, maybe you should get your mom to read that verse to you and your daddy!" It was quite funny!

But then Colson has some pretty funny things to say. I always say I need to write everything down and then I count on my memory and of course that doesn't always pull through for me. His teacher told me the other day that Colson had the whole class circled around his frog that he caught from home the day before and had brought in to show his friends. As everyone was looking he piped up and said "Yea, we got this frog from the museum. They let us borrow it. Isn't it cool?"

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving with a Pre-K Feast up at PDS. the kids did a little program of some songs and then we all ate some turkey together. Here is a picture of Colson and his best bud Jake. If you look closely, you can see them holding hands.
After the feast, Wes took him on his first hunt of the season. Something he had been asking and asking to do. They ended up shooting a hog. Not really my thing but Colson thought it was cool so I did too!
