Mrs. President

Last month, Calli brought home a form to be completed to apply for a position at the school bank. 4th grade is "in charge" of the bank and they have several positions that students could apply for in order to help run it each Wednesday. Positions like customer service, teller, marketing, security....and PRESIDENT! My Calli is a go getter and she really wanted to apply for President. Of course she's not the greatest at coming to a decision so she contemplated that for what seemed like forever! She would ask what I thought she should do. Of course, I told her she should do what she wanted but I thought she'd like it better as a teller or customer service person because she said she wanted to be in a position where she could do a lot. I told her that the President would oversee everyone and help with problems but may not get to do a lot of hands on work. Part of that was true but part of it was also my effort to discourage her so that she'd apply for a position where there were multiple slots to fill and not just one. There would be one President....there would be 4 tellers. Her odds were better applying for a teller or customer service position. I could tell that's not what she wanted to do. You would have thought were were deciding on what college she should attend (although that's a no brainer in our family but you get the idea). This was HUGE!

The night before the application was due she decided she was going to go for it. She wanted to be President of Diamondback Bank. So she completed all of the questions and turned it in. A couple of days later she found out she qualified for an interview. She wore her banker attire, marched right into the interview room and answered a bunch of questions. What kind? Not real sure. All I got out of her was 'they were questions mom. Questions about me and the bank'. Are we already withholding information?

The outcome.....
Dear Calli,
Thank you for interviewing for the AR Turner Diamonback Bank. The interviewer was very impressed with the qualilty of applicants and the choice was extremely difficult.

I am pleased to inform you that you were selected for the position of PRESIDENT for the Diamondback Bank. We feel that we have a great team of employees for the Bank this year and look forward to working with each of you.

Can you say elated? She was thrilled and so were the rest of us! I underestimated her ability....what kind of mother am I? Oh well, she was Mrs. President to us for several days!
