OIL RANCH

Thursday Colson's first grade tossed their pencils and brains aside and opted for a fun day of exploring and playing at the Oil Ranch. Colson was so excited the night before that he just knew he would never fall asleep...so he said. Lucky for me he did...whew! He really was that excited though. He was excited about the whole oil ranch gig but he was E.X.C.I.T.E.D about riding the big yellow school bus. When I explained that I would be going on the field trip and driving my car and that he could ride home with me, well he thought his trip was ruined. I had to promise that I would let him ride home on the bus. I suggested that maybe the field trip should be them just riding around Houston on the bus. He replied in his most serious voice and face "No that really wouldn't be good because how would we eat lunch? We can't eat on the bus?" Silly mom...how did I not think of that!  Of course I figured that he'd change his mind once he made the first part of the trip. And for the first time (ever) I was wrong.

We had a great time riding ponies, milking a cow, shooting a few hoops, riding the train, feeding cows and of course EATING LUNCH under the pavillion.
And just so you don't think Colson is prejudice in his torchering of animals, here he was trying to scare the Ram...but the Ram scared him when he lunged at him. The joke was on you bud!

i really can't wrap my head around what exactly an "oil" ranch is. it seems like it would be very messy.

You know I forgot to mention that in my post...I for the life of me couldn't figure out why it was called an oil ranch. There were "Indians" that greeted us at the gate and not one activity had to do with oil. I'm sure had I been smart enough (or should I say cared enough) to ask I would have heard some explanation that (stretching it) would have made total sense.
