SIT BACK AND ENJOY!

If you are a first grade teacher or know of one....I think this is definate "must do". Colson's class did a book tasting. Each child is assigned a day when they will read a book to the class. They can choose whatever book they want as long as it has something to do with food. After he/she finishes reading, the class gets to enjoy the food treat. For example, if you read If You Give A Moose A Muffin the class treat would be muffins.

It's great for the good reader and those that struggle because the child can choose a book that matches his reading skills and they have plenty of time to practice it on their own before they read to the class. And for them to get up in front of the class and do anything really can cause them to overcome fears that they may struggle with now or later.

Colson's book was The Red Lemon and he did great! The treat afterwards was fresh squeezed lemonade and lemons for those that wanted to ruin their teeth.

So grab your cup of lemonade, sit "criss cross applesauce" on the floor (only if you are able to get back up on your own) and enjoy The Red Lemon.
