I did find that the nurse takes her job very seriously. On Sunday after we dropped her off, I get a call on my home phone about 10:30 at night. I didn't recognize the number so I didn't answer it. Since I didn't answer it they immediately called my cell phone which made me a tad bit nervous because I knew immediately it was the camp. It was...it was the nurse. She had found Flinstones vitamins in Calli's luggage and wanted to know if she needed to take them, when she needed to take them, etc. I politely explained that I didn't know she even had them, she just keeps it in that bag with her retainer, toothbrush etc and that if she wanted to take one a day that is fine. "Morning or night?" she asked. "Uhhhh....I don't really care.....I guess morning". I was laughing in my head thinking 'You do know they are like candy right? Why don't you give them to her at night if she doesn't have any accidents all day as her reward'. That's okay...at least I know they are really being taken care of. But apparently my answer wasn't a good one because she called me the next day about 2 o'clock. "Hi Mrs. Schubert...this is Nurse Joy from Outback and I talked to you yesterday and you said for Calli to take one of her Flinstones Vitamins a day but this morning she said she didn't mean to bring them and she really didn't want to take them. So I need to know if you want her to take them or not." I'm sure for her to take them means she has to miss something so that she can go to the nurses office and take her Flinstones Vitamins and she was like...forget that! So I gently let Calli off the hook and told the nurse that I guess she didn't need to be rewarded for accident free days and that she didn't have to take them.
They post pictures every day on the Pine Cove website so enjoy....
I can't wait to see her Saturday! We miss you Calli Grace!
So that left Colson at home with us. But he had his own camp to go to that I knew would be a much more challenging departure. The church we've been going to for about a year does their own spend the night away camp in Huntsville about 30 minutes from here for 1st-6th graders. Wes and I had talked about it when we found out and we both agreed that it would be so great if Colson would go because he could meet friends and feel more comfortable at the church. But if you read my blog you know my Colson. Scared of everything irrational....still crawls in our bed most nights....must have Jax with him to sleep.....just recently started sleeping with only his closet light on. So when his teacher exuberantly asked me if he was going to camp a couple of months ago I stressed how I would LOVE for him to go but I don't think there is any way he'll spend the night. She assured me that their were other kids in years past who had that problem and Mark is great about getting them to stay. I said "I don't know who Mark is but unless he's furry, stinky and bites ankles (like Jax) that it wouldn't matter to Colson." Mark is her husband, the other teacher in the class, I just didn't know his name. She suggested that we bring him up during the days though which I thought was a GREAT idea!
So yesterday was drop off (well for everyone but Colson that is) at 4 pm. I am sure that people thought I was an overprotective parent as I just hung around spying, trying to not be too close to Colson so he wouldn't hang onto me. And since I still don't know alot of people at the church I am sure they were thinking 'What is she doing'. I didn't want to drop him off, drive all the way home and then come back to get him a few hours later. I did leave to go get gas and something to eat. When I came back I found the kids in the cafeteria eating dinner. I went and said hi to Colson and he said "Mom, I think I kinda want to stay here tonight" GASP!!! I tried to not cry from excitement and I told him I would go get his things and bring them back if he wanted me to. He looked at me and said "I said KINDA! Do you think you could bring me Jax?" Um no son...I'm pretty sure Jax is off limits. But by the end of the night he was so tired he just wanted to go home even skipping the nachos after the smores fire pit...doesn't that sound like a good combination?
And by the time we got home he didn't even want to go back today. After prying him out of bed this morning he agreed to go back. I had his bag packed so he could stay the night if he wanted and he would change his mind every 5 minutes. I told him he could go tell his teacher at dinner time if he wanted to go home and she could call me otherwise he could just stay the night. He wasn't too keen on that idea and asked if I would just come after chapel time and if he wanted to stay I could go home and if he wanted to go he could come home with me. Poor kid.....I'm not sure he'll ever outgrow this.
Tune in tomorrow to see which bed he slept in....I know the suspense is killing you.
