WE'RE STILL THANKFUL

I guess before I start posting about Christmas activities and before the actual big day suddenly is upon us, I should highlight our nice Thanksgiving day. This is the second year that Willis schools have given us the full week off at Thanksgiving. And boy is it nice! I don't really remember what we did that week which reminds me why I need to blog about things shortly after they happen.

I informed the kids Wednesday night that we would be getting up early on Thursday (Thanksgiving) to go and assemble turkey meals for those less fortunate. Our church was organizing meals being served at the church and then some boxed up and handed out at a park in the central part of a neighborhood with low income families. I was absolutely shocked when neither of them complained. They did both say "that's early" when I mentioned we had to get up at 7:45 but it was more said as a statement, not an exasperated plea not to go. I had a speech ready to dish out to them. I was prepared to combat their selfish attitudes. But instead I silently smiled as they both said "OK"

That morning we hung out at the park and assembled 300 meals. Cars would drive up and we'd give them however many plates they needed. Turkey, Chicken, Stuffing, Green bean casserole, bread and oatmeal cookies all looked delicious. The meat had been smoked all night so it smelled good.

Colson's favorite part was holding the sign. He had Bob costume flashbacks as he waved it around and hollared at people to get their free turkey dinner as they drove by.

After serving, we headed home for a couple of hours and then made our way out to Christina's. An enjoyable, delicous, relaxing afternoon was just what we needed. My cousin Mark and his family, my uncle, aunt and other cousin all joined us along with all of my family.

After dinner we pulled out all of the ads and decided how we would conquer the black Friday sales. It was a total waste of time on my end but I did go out later that afternoon (Friday) and picked up a few things.

I really love Thanksgiving. I have so much to be thankful for which makes for an enjoyable day.
