Here is one word to summarize our weekend in San Antonio…DRAMA!
We headed out Saturday morning loaded up with bags for a week…you know how girls pack…..our friends Jennifer and Carson and a car following us. We arrived late afternoon, checked in and headed out for some yummy Mexican food. Saturday night was our late night. The girls ended up taking the floor about 10:15 pm and had a few blunders. It was ok though because day one only counted for 25%. If you could pick one day to be on, it would be DAY 2. So although we were in 12th out of 15 after day one, we new the girls could make a come back.

Some of the girls on he way home Saturday night on the bus.But first we had to have a little fun on Sunday. We started our morning out at a McDonalds located in a not so good part of town. Read this next part carefully….their soft drinks weren’t working which meant NO DIET COKE! Looking back I should have known that this day had the potential of being really bad. So we finished our breakfast and headed on over to the Alamo. We parked and began walking our way to the Alamo and of course I reach for my Iphone. I shuffle Calli on her way with the rest of the group and I go back to the car in a small panic as I couldn’t find it. Small panic turns into a sick feeling in my stomach as I search the car with no avail. So after about an hour of going back and forth to McDonalds in search of what has become my lifeline, I finally came to accept that it had been stolen or possibly thrown away (I won’t bore you with all the details of the lengths I went through to find it). I’ve always jokingly said I had an addiction to my Iphone…it was validated on Sunday when I found myself in the AT&T store only 4 hours after it went missing buying a new one. Now the buzz phrase in the Schubert household with the current scare of the economy is “hunkering down”. And if you aren’t clear as to what that would mean, let me just say that buying a new Iphone is not hunkering down. Although I did explain to Wes that I could have bought the $400 Iphone but I stuck to the $200 and I still heard the silence on the other end of the phone.
With the absence of my phone we still did enjoy the Alamo (or they did while I was driving all over San Antonio) and Ripley’s Believe it Or Not. We headed back to the hotel and got the girls all ready. I went to get my phone as they were doing their 2 hour warm up practice time. After I got my new phone, I headed over to the competition to watch Calli’s team take the floor for the last time. Of course I spent an hour looking for our team and when I finally found them I heard “we were worried, why didn’t you call” I DIDN’T HAVE ANY PHONE NUMBERS!! The girls took the floor and did AWESOME!!! They looked really good, solid and were so excited for their improvement. Only they weren’t rewarded because an hour later at the awards ceremony they still received 12th place….I think they got robbed but that’s ok. It was really overshadowed by the drama that took place minutes before hand. In front of thousands of people, the announcer publically recognized our coaches saying that our gym owner wanted to thank them because the gym was closing it’s doors and they had done an awesome job…WHAT?!?!?! Did she really just say that? You see we have known this could be a possibility because of different circumstances but we really didn’t expect it to be announced to us in this way. According to the owner that is not what she was supposed to say and it’s not what was really happening. That’s really not the point and this topic is much longer than just a single day blog. But the drama part came into play when that announcement was made and the reaction in the stands was witnessed. It was CRAZY!!! It was COMICAL!! You just had to be there and unfortunately there were a lot more people than some care to remember that WERE there to witness it all.
