About 6 weeks before, Colson came home with his paper talking about the program. The teacher wrote in his part and his lines and attached a picture of his costume. His part was "Sam I Am". Knowing the music teacher I assumed the name of the musical was Sam I Am and he didn't have a "real" part (there are many kids who don't have their own part they do something with the class or in a group. He did have one line but it was kind of generic so I thought he might just say it in unison with a group). So about a week before I ask him who is in the musical. He replies "I'm Sam". Sam? That's strange...as in Sam...I am? I pry "You mean you are THE Sam? Are their other Sam's? Are you the only one?" His answers led me to believe he was the only Sam and he was THE guy. Suddenly his costume became much more important. I had to make him look good. I still was very uneasy about the whole thing because I couldn't IMAGINE my son being the LEAD guy in the musical. Not only did I not think he was really capable of being in front of people that way but I didn't DREAM he would even agree to it.
So the night of I've given in to make him a costume that's presentable still doubting that the kid really does anything in the musical. Which is why I didn't even bring my video camera. Well he showed me up because sure enough he was SAM...the Sam...Sam I Am! But there were several main parts...he was the main part for his class. So each class did a song and lines from a Dr. Seuss book. One did Horton Hears a Who....one did now I can't remember...Colson's class did Sam I Am. It was cute. The class did a little dance acting out the words of the song and
So here's my SAM I AM!
