Sometime in early May we had a field day. It's not really a day anymore...the kids didn't even have 2 hours to play outside...but there was plenty to do. They rotate all the grades so they had to cut the time short.
And I was not complaining about a FIELD PERIOD instead of a FIELD DAY...it was hot!
Colson finished up a great year in 2nd grade. While we tried really hard to get at least one 6 weeks with all A's, it just wasn't meant to be. But the effort was there and I know he understands the concepts, I just don't think he could make it all click, all day, with so much work to remain focused on. Mrs. Martin expected alot out of her students...which is good. Hopefully he'll be super prepared for 3rd grade. He did manage to get all A's in the semester column for both semesters except in one subject, the second semester..he got an 89. Ugh! The semester average is what goes on your transcript and follows you throughout your school career, so having almost all A's there is a good thing.
What I loved about Mrs. Martin was that she was very nurturing and had a great disposition. Sure she could get mad sometimes but I'm sure with 20 8 year olds, from all walks of life, crammed in a room for 8 hours a day, we'd all have our patience tried. She was funny with them, she laughed a lot, she thought most things they did was so cute and I could tell she genuinely loved this group of kids.
Colson had a closing awards ceremony where he received
*A/B Honor Role
*Citizenship award
*Good conduct award
*Rodeo Art certificate
*National Physical Fitness Award (Coslon doesn't like this award because President Obando-what he used to call him when he was little-signe it)
The last day of school is really just a day of chaos and bringing your teacher a gift. The kids had a little lunch picnic in their room and went outside to play, eat cookie cake, watermelon and popsicles. It's always sad to close a year out but we are very proud of the great year Colson had!
