We now have a teenager in the house. I remember like it was yesterday rocking her in the big green recliner/rocker we had singing Jesus Loves Me at 3 o'clock in the morning and by 4 o'clock was singing louder and louder in hopes that Wes would hear me and feel sorry for me. That little 7 lb angel who would only sleep on my chest is now an independent, spunky, beautiful thirteen year old. Oh my how time flys! In three more years she'll be driving and in 5 more years she'll be heading off to college.
I'm hoping the back talking, I'm smarter than you attitude and I don't have to listen to you mentality doesn't come with this dreaded number. I'm sure I'll be spending much more time in the next few years on my knees in prayer.
Since I'm not the cool mom and makes my child go to school on her birthday, I decided to do a little something special for this momentous occassion. So she had 13 gifts to open....one every hour beginning at her wake up hour and ending with her main present at dinner with our families. I think it was fun for her. Nothing was too extravagent and everything had to be small so she could carry it throughout the day. So she got everything from pencils (opened in math class) to a travel motorized toothbrush (opened right after lunch) to a new sports bra (opened right before tumble class).
We celebrated with the family at one of her favorites....Wild Ginger. Where they throw rice at you, light your eyebrows on fire and then expect you to pay them quite heftily.
Lucky for Calli, the next day was no school because it was Good Friday. So she had 4 of her friends meet us at Toasted Yolk for breakfast and then I took them all down to Houston to the trampoline park where they flipped and jumped for 2 hours.
Of course there was a small break in there for cookie cake because what's a birthday without cake. We had sang for her the night before at dinner. We sang for her that morning at breakfast so I thought we were good to skip the singing for cake. Who knew that singing multiple times was such an important part of a thirteen year olds birthday. She was slightly disappointed when I just began cutting the cake with no melody coming out of my mouth.
It was a fun couple of days celebrating one of the pride and joys of our lives!
