On Wes' watch, Colson broke his collarbone. How? He had a
fight with a tractor and the tractor won. He was playing with his friend and was running backwards. When he turned
around to run full speed, there was a tractor sitting there that didn’t get out
of his way. Not moving. No one on it. Parked tractor. He may have dented the
tractor but the tractor also dented him. I took him that night to get an X Ray
not thinking it was broken because you can never tell when he’s hurt. He tries
to act all tough with Wes because he thinks he’ll get mad at him for crying.
And the second he sees me he falls to the ground in pain. Really kid? How am I
supposed to know if you are pulling my leg or not. He does it every time he
gets hurt. So I thought I would take him to find out for sure so that he
couldn’t milk it with me or I could tell Wes to lay off him. The xray showed a
no break. They gave him a sling and said to take it easy for a few days. The kids at school would sing "Colson got run over by a tractor" to the tune of Grandma got run over by a reindeer. He tried to tell them that HE ran over the tractor but it was too late, the lyrics had stuck already.
On Friday we were at John and Brookes and he was playing dodge ball. He came and told me something popped but wasn't crying or anything....and then went out and played dodge ball again.
So we leave for Vegas on Sunday and as I'm standing in line checking into the MGM, I get a text from Grandma Schubert asking me to call her. Ves had felt Colson's shoulder at church and had made a special visit over to the house to feel it again and he felt the break in the collarbone. So they headed to get an X-ray on Monday and sure enough it was broken. So he's out of baseball (which we were mostly done until the Spring) and we had to resign from basketball. A little disappointing but I'm sure I'll enjoy the taxi break of not having to run him to all the practices.
