INDEPENDANCE DAY CELEBRATION!

Wow...am I behind! Things have been busy around our household...I guess with all my parties. We started our 4th of July out kind of boring but by the end of the day we were tired. Since noone in this part of the woods remembered what rain looked like, it was safe to say that the fireworks shows were scarce in the area. A couple of places had laser shows which I heard from a 9 year old was "pretty lame". Calli had spent the night with Lauren and her mom texted me on the morning of the 4th and said they may go down to a parade and festival in the Woodlands and wanted to take Calli. Being the well mannered friend that I am...I invited the rest of us. We had Colson's friend Harrison over so he trailed along too.

The girls road motorized scooters and the boys road rip razers. The girls were really into decorating. The boys I think got tired of me asking if they wanted to decorate that they finally gave in and added a few streamers. Hilary and her girls stalked us and joined in too. In all of my sparadic blogging, I don't know if I've mentioned that Hilary, one of my very good friends from high school, was in town for a month with her 4 adorable girls. If you can't have fun with Hilary...you are a dud! Her husband is Captain of the USS Higgins and has been deployed since January. Hil and the girls came down to visit us (and her dad-ha!) so we've been hanging out with them a lot.

After the parade we were headed to go to the festival at Market Street when I got wind that New Waverly was having their fireworks show. I was actual quite skeptical that it would actually take place but you wouldn't know it. I was sure that I had bad information but I stopped and got everybody dinner and headed to get a spot for the fireworks show and had a picnic dinner while we waited.
And sure enough as soon as the sun went down, the sky was lit up with some cool colors. It was a really great and long show! Well worth the wait! Hilary and the girls, being part of the military, are used to some pretty fabulous 4th of July celebrations in whatever city they have been in on this great day. I was glad that the one stop light town of New Waverly showed up for the occassion and didn't disappoint the Ruiz girls!
