Early in June, Shellie organized a trip to the Skeeters game...the new basebal team in Sugarland...with Robyn, Stephanie Hood, Catherine and our kids. It's a really cool set up with the stadium so close to the field and with lots of extra activities for younger kids. I didn't go and look but they have a playground, a pool and other fun things to do behind the outfield. With the exception of Calli and Caroline (Catherine's daughter) all of our kids were really into the game. And that's probably because the rest of the kids in attendance were all boys and all play baseball (except John who is only 3).
According to Shellie, John has a little man crush on Colson. Ever since we stayed at their house during one of Colson's tournaments in the Katy area, John talks quite frequently about Colson. He has asked if Colson goes potty on the big potty (Shellie was hoping that maybe John would want to copy). He asks everyone he knows if they know his friend Colson who is already big. And he even swears he saw Colson on TV at the US Open. Cracks me up! Colson is quite good with John...but he has lots of practice with Hudson who is just a year older. So John was very excited to spend the evening with Colson and with all the other big boys.
I thought the Sugarland Skeeters were a Minor League team but as soon as they all took the field, something looked strange. I think they are really a Dad team thrown together to give the Sugarland community some entertainment. They all looked much older than a Rookie drafted to a Minor League team and there were several errors. But I was ok with that because it meant that the game was actually entertaining. There was no chance of a no hitter game so the players actually hit the ball and the fielders actually made some really good plays and some not so good so that it became an actual game instead of a "one error" win.
In reality many were probably Minor league players that never made it to the Majors and had grown up and still had a passion for the game. Like I said the kids were so into it that when it started sprinkling and much of the crowd was leaving, we also tried. "NO!!!" was the overwhelming response from the boys. So the girls and I took cover and visited until the last strike out occurred.
