MINI ME

I know I’ve said many times that Colson has so many characteristics that are not like me that I wonder if he’s really mine. And I think I’ve said that about Calli a few times as well but in all honesty she’s much more like me than Colson is. She cries A LOT…which she didn’t get from me...but hey the world needs a few more tears. The last few months she’s said some things that I have one of those “she’s just like me” moments.

A few months ago we were on our way to school and she was chatting up a storm and her hair looked very pretty that day so I said “Calli I really like your hair today, you look very pretty”. And in mid sentence and without a pause she said “yea, I know”. Just like me! Not that I think I look pretty all the time but I have those days when I say ‘oh, I really like my hair today’ or ‘oh, my outfit is cute today’. Of course Robyn would know that I never can say that about my shoes! And of course it’s those days when I don’t see anyone out and about to validate my “cuteness”.

Throughout the course of the year I think I’ve heard that every teacher at Turner that she has encountered really like her. Every week she has a new teacher. And she’s never shy to tell me, “Mom, I think Mrs. Alling really likes me because…” or she’ll tell me something that happened with a teacher and then say “She really like me mom”. Just like me! I was always in tight with my teachers and knew they all LOVED me! Except Mr. Rauls…but did he really count? And I actually think he secretly liked me but just never wanted to admit it.

Over the last couple of years she doodles some on paper or on her wipe off board in her room. Much of the doodling says something like “Calli Rocks” or “Calli is the best”! Just like me! When I was in the 4th grade I used to write Stephanie (or Murdock) is #1 on everything!

Earlier this week I asked Calli if her History teacher liked her (I hadn’t heard her as one of the Calli followers yet). I was a little intimidated by her History teacher early in the year but the last few weeks she’s really warmed up to me and so I thought maybe she had gotten to know Calli and therefore felt like she knew me better to open up to me more. Calli said “Oh yea Mom, I think she really likes me. I make her laugh a lot. I like to see her laugh and smile…she has a pretty smile”. She then proceeded to tell me that sometimes she asks some really silly questions and that’s what makes her laugh. If anyone stalks reads this blog that had class with me in High School you know that this is JUST LIKE ME!!! And most of my silly questions were in History.

I’ve had three parents that work up at the school store where Calli gets to work every Friday because she has good math grades, tell me that they have really enjoyed getting to know Calli this year and love her great personality and funny antics. She really is a great kid! And this morning on my way to College Station for work, I hit the Willis McDonalds where I ran into her math teacher. He told me how Calli is his “go to” person for everything. He says I do the problem on the board and I ask her if it’s right. In other words he checks his answers off of Calli. He then told me all the great things she does in his class and how responsible she is and on and on and on…..I can validate that Mr. Skates does like Calli....but I heard it first from her! She’s a good kid and a great student! Makes a mama proud!

Mr. Rauls definitely does not count! He sent me out in the hall and called my parents one time. He scared me.

And your shoes ARE cute for a senior citizen! Ha... Jk!
