KINDERGARTEN GRADUATE

Wow! What a week! Over the next few days, I’ll post some pictures and highlights of the weeks events but for today, we are celebrating that I have a KINDERGARTEN graduate amongst us.

Wow has he blossomed over this last year. I held him back in the two year old class at PDS (I know it sounds a little strange but hey I’m a mom who knows what she wants). And holding him back was the very best thing. He is a good reader and getting better every day. He has loved school! And although he tells me that he’s ready for 1st grade and to head into those big long hallways of AR Turner, I would bet money that within the frist month of school, he’ll be begging to go back and visit Mrs. Arnold.

Graduation was held on Tuesday night and up until Monday, we thought we had a major conflict on our hands. You see his playoff baseball game was scheduled for Tuesday and his heart was broken when I told him that he had to attend his graduation and miss his baseball game. I informed him that he would have 300 more baseball games in his lifespan but he would never have another Kindergarten graduation and some of these kids he may never see again. “But mom, I’ll never get to play the Rangers again!” he cried. “Really son? And who is on the Rangers that you know and care about playing?” I asked. “Noone” he said in his most traumatic of cries. On Friday we decided that we were going to pray for rain on Tuesday so that the game would be rescheduled. Colson thought that was a GREAT idea! By Monday, I had Colson convinced that graduation was the better event to be at and to our delight they told us at our Monday practice that the game had been rescheduled.

I survived graduation with no tears. There was a moment when I started to get a little sad and then I just refocused on how cute and sweet everything was….not on the fact that my last child had completed Kindergarten. Colson received the Math Award. Here’s a short summary of what Mrs. Arnold said as she presented Colson with his award.

"This child always surprised me with his knowledge of numbers. From the beginning of the year it was clear that he had an understanding and grasp of math skills. He loves my number chart and is quick to think through math problems and come up with the answers. He also has a wonderful sense of humor and sings beautifully."

And then she announced that Colson wanted to be a cop when he grows up. Let me remind you that he wants to be a cop because cops can’t go to jail(or so he thinks).

What a wonderful ceremony it was and of course Colson had all his fan club there to make the event even more special. And along with the sadness of having a Kindergarten graduate, I also have to deal with the fact that I am NO LONGER A PARENT OF PRESBYTERIAN DAY SCHOOL. There I said it! I’m still reflecting on that and sure to have some closing thoughts in the near future….I know you can’t wait.
So meet the PDS Kindergarten class of 2010! These kids will do great things I am sure of it!
