IT'S ALL IN THE DELIVERY

One of my "rules to live by" and I'm sure I've shed light to it on here before is the plain and simple fact that many times disappointment can be avoided if it's well delivered. And it's not necessarily the delivery of what will disappoint but the overexaggerated delivery of "Plan B". It's funny that it's one of my rules to live by but I'm not very good at living by it.  But on this rare occasion I remembered the tactic and executed it beautifully.

Since bluebonnets began their bloom, Colson has been begging to take his picture in them. It took me by surprise at first because that didn't seem like an outing he would want to do but more like a request from Calli. After 4 or 5 days of the "Oh can we stop there?" exclammations I noticed he had an indepth knowledge of the bluebonnets, for for a 1st grader at least, and then I realized Mrs. Hurst had been talking about them in class...reading books about them, looking at pictures, etc.

In early April on my way back from College Station, I noticed HUGE patches of them in the Montgomery area and thought 'This is where I need to go'. They put to shame the little patches that we saw as we traveled to and from school each day. So I promised, and I promised and I promised. And then as I drove back from Austin I noticed those HUGE patches weren't near as eye catching because they were going away. There were no longer any patches on the way to school....I had to act quick. As Colson was moaning last week that the bluebonetts were all gone and I never took him to take his picture I promised him yet again and scrambled to figure out when our schedules were clear to go take them.

We made our way out to the very faded, almost non existant blubonnets as I hyped up how many there were and this was the best spot, etc. And he gasped when he saw them. He was delighted! He told me not to step on any of them and then he looked for some that may have fallen off the stem because "you can't pick them!" As you can see from these pictures they are pitiful but take my word for it that they were beautiful when they were in full bloom.

I wish I could have recorded Calli moaning on the way out to take these pictures...she just wanted to go home. And then when we got out there she wanted her picture with every good patch she could find. I guess my delivery even worked on her.
