AND THEN THERE WAS SNOW!!!!

So this morning we all woke up slowly and took our time since we didn't have to be at our celebrity debut this morning. We watched the news as we were layering our clothes. If I had a brain, I would have brought my fat jeans so that I could wear multiple layers of long johns under my jeans and still feel comfortable. Anyways, the news was reviewing the "winter wallup" as they termed it, that was coming through. Jennifer and I exchanged a look of panic when they said DC was expecting 20" of snow on the ground which was the most since 1922. Our panic turned to laughter as we each added another layer of clothing. Luckily we aren't in DC (but still it's the same storm) and New York is only expected to get 8 to 12 inches.

Today was our educational day. We took the red sightseeing bus around the city and made a stop at Ground Zero. While there isn't a lot going on at Ground Zero, we stopped in at St. Paul's church which stood right next to the twin towers and soon became a refuge for the fire fighters, and volunteers as they worked around the clock following 9/11. It was moving and a moment of sharing with the girls exactly what happened in the first year of their life. The church documented the hope and despair that it saw including the pews the original pews that many a fire fighter shed many a tear on. It showed the cots that some would sleep on. It showed the makeshift memorials that were created. It showed the missing signs of some that were posted all over the city. It was moving, very moving! There was also a 9/11 memorial site indoor spot that showed what the finished memorial would look like as well as a timeline of that dreadful day!

We also stopped off at the Statue of Liberty but couldn't get up the steps to it. By the time we got to the Statue of Liberty it was snowing hard and walking through it, the ice was pelting in our faces and it was just cold! But noone was complaining...the girls thought it was great!

We topped off our day at the Magnolia bakery where we stood in a very small space rubbing hineys with a bunch of strangers. This place was PACKED! They are famous for their cupcakes so I got 4. As if I haven't eaten enough in the last 3 days! I ate one tonight and it was delicious!

So the highlight was the SNOW!!! And it's snowing hard now...I'm kinda thankful I'm in the comfort of my nice warm hotel with a nice warm shower in my future. Tomorrow should be fun as we get to play in all the snow that falls tonight! And once again we wore the girls out!
