ROUNDS 2, 3, and 4

Well I guess Round 1 of Christmas kicked our tails because Round 2, 3 and 4 were survived through

DRUGS!!!

On Christmas Eve everyone woke up at normal time, except me, and I enjoyed an awesome sleep until about 10:00 am. I would have slept longer had I not been awoken by my sweet husband who was doubled over pushing me across the bed so he could lay down. One wrong move and his back was out....and I mean O-U-T! He did nothing to it, he had not injured it previously or anything of that sort. Which means the reason for the out of service back had to have been A-G-E. So he layed in bed most of the day with these muscle spasms that concerned him greatly. Apparantly when the muscle spasmed, he had to hold his breath and he was concerned that he would quit breathing because he might hold his breath too long....only a Schubert thinks like that. Calli immediatly started crying and ran to her room. She was scared. I called Dr. Ves (our super hero Dr. that it feels like we only ever need on holidays or weekends) and he called Wes in some muscle relaxers. About an hour later, after I had tended to Wes a little bit with my very best nursing skills (no need to ask him about them), I went in to check on Calli. She said her stomach hurt. I took her temperature and she was running a low grade fever. I gave Calli some Tylenol and headed out to the pharmacy because I knew Wes needed some "knock out" drugs fast so he wouldn't be "knocked out" from holding his breath. By this time it was about 11:30 and I start thinking that maybe I had a UTI, which had crossed my mind the day before but of course a wife/mother never learns to take care of themselves first do they? So, I put a call in to my Doctor who was only working "on call". About 2 hours later the answering service called me back to tell me that the Doctor on call (not my Doctor) said to go to the emergency room. Yea right, like I'm dumb enough to do that. So, since Dr. Ves' office was closed by now and since I was trying to not freeload off of him yet again, I headed into the Sadler Urgent Care Clinic leaving Colson as head of the house. I was desperate.

2 hours later I leave with a perscription, get it filled right before the pharmacy closes and rush home to make sure Colson had burned the house down. I had to decide if our plans would be rearranged for the evening as well. I should point out that I had a perfectly planned out day that did not entail any Dr. visits, drug runs or heating pads, but God felt differently about my plans. I come home to find Wes still absolutely helpless and Calli not running fever but the house was still standing. So because I could not disappoint, the kids and I headed to church to celebrate and pause about the true Celebration. What a sweet time of unwinding and relaxing in His presence. We then rushed to the Nursing Home where we have helped my mom lead Christmas Carols with the residences for many years now. And finally we made it to my moms for dinner and the present swap. All the while, Wes is still intermittently holding his breath at home, Calli never moved from the couch and I felt like crap. Colson was full force though.

Colson showing off his unwilling spirit to take a picture and his favorite new toy his DS...it will be our luck that we'll find his one he lost about 6 months ago now that we have a new one. Hudson looks really into the gift thing here but don't let it fool you. He was more interested in exploring the off limits part of the house while he knew everyone else was occupied.

Colson put some cookies out when we got home as Calli headed straight to her bed. Colson and I gathered around her bed as we read the real Christmas story from the Bible and we all settled down for a long winters nap. Unfortunately that nap wasn't as long as I would have liked it but 8 am is nothing to scream about. We celebrated with the opening of gifts with the four of us on Christmas morning. Santa brought the kids Band Hero for the Wii, remote control boats for the pool and scooters. No healing magic entered the house for Wes' back and he still moved pretty slow.

For lunch we went over to the Schubert's and were joined by the Caperton's (Dr. Ves). After Dr. Ves finished sticking Wes with two shots in the garage, he came in and looked at Calli's throat which she was now complaining about. Um, had I looked into her throat, I could have easily made a self diagnosis (there are those really good nursing skills that I spoke of earlier). They were swolen and red so a third and final drug run was made on Christmas afternoon. Drugs were administered just in time for my parents and Christina's family to make it over to our house for some game playing.

Wow what a two days! By the day after Christmas, Wes was getting around much better and Calli and I felt good. I gave Wes a hard time about how convenient his back spasms were on the two days I really needed him. There's always next year.....

So this week has been really crazy. We had a post Christmas friend PJ party.

I started back to work on Monday...I really could have done without that.

I had friends come in town Tuesday with lots of kids in tow and then my kids had friends spend the night that night.

Shellie's neice Ana and Hilary's oldest Caroline.

All the kids

And their mothers Rome, Hilary's husband bonding with John because he didn't want to bond with any of us.

Wrapped up by another party (reunion type for Wes) last night and so tonight we got wild and crazy! Yea, like that would happen even if we were in the mood for it. Everyone (but me of course) was asleep by 10:30. We did pop fireworks and enjoy some nice sparkling cider.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's 2010!
